Measurement and control

LDsCD

The LDsCD system measures the conductivity of the water and, according to the set value (set point), activates or deactivates the dosing of chemical products or controls the opening and closing of the inlet and drain solenoid valves.

  • Range up to 0 – 300 mS
  • Conductive or inductive probes
  • Automatic temperature compensation
  • In by-pass, in-line or immersion

How it works

Control principle

According to the measured conductivity and the set value, the controller drives dosing pumps, solenoid valves or other equipment.

Layout of the LDsCD system on a water storage tank: controller, immersed conductivity probe, product injection, chemical product tank and booster pump
1

Measurement

The probe detects conductivity, on a µS or mS range depending on the model, with automatic temperature compensation.

2

ON/OFF control

The controller activates the output when the ON set point is exceeded, deactivates it when the OFF set point is reached and reactivates it when conductivity returns to the ON set point.

3

Dosing and drain

The dosing pumps can dose chemical products according to the measured conductivity; solenoid valves or motorised valves manage the inlet and drain of the water.

Probes

Conductive and inductive probes

Probes with graphite, stainless steel or high-linearity electrodes, based on the conductive or inductive principle.

Conductive conductivity probes

Conductive

Four series: PVDF body with stainless steel electrodes (0 – 200 µS or 0 – 5 mS) or graphite electrodes (0 – 20 or 0 – 200 mS), stainless steel body and electrodes for immersion and high temperatures, epoxy body with high-linearity platinum electrodes.

Conductive probes →
Inductive conductivity probes

Inductive

Particularly stable and accurate reading, as it is not affected by the polarisation and deposits typical of conductive probes; it measures even in still water, up to 300 mS. It must be installed with the flow directed at the end of the probe, avoiding deposits of solids and air bubbles.

Inductive probes →
Inductive probe

Measuring principle of the inductive probe

Inductive measurement is based on an output current proportional to conductivity. The probe consists of two elements, a coil and a resistor, housed in a cylindrical casing with a through hole: the alternating voltage applied to the coil creates an alternating magnetic field that generates in the fluid a current proportional to conductivity; this current induces a voltage in the resistor, which the receiver processes to determine conductivity.

Principle of the inductive probe: 1 coil, 2 resistor, 3 alternating current generator, 4 receiver, 5 current flow in the fluid passing through the hole of the probe

Installation

Electrode positioning

Electrode positioning is defined according to the characteristics of the installation and of the water to be analysed.

PEF flow-through probe holder and NPED probe holder

In by-pass

The probes are housed in a PEF flow-through probe holder or an NPED probe holder, connected to a water tapping point at the tank outlet and fed with about 30 l/h of sample water. A flow sensor can be added, which stops dosing when there is no flow.

Probe holders →

Controller

The controller

It acquires the measurement from the probe and drives the dosing pump in proportion to the value detected. It is supplied pre-assembled on a panel, ready for connection.

Colour display

Multicolour backlit display that indicates the different operating states by changing colour. Programming via a single knob.

Four modes

Proportional, ON/OFF, PWM and PID dosing, with delayed dosing start.

Data storage

Permanent data storage and a system log viewable on the display; the internal log can be exported to a USB memory stick for processing with a spreadsheet.

Alarms

Chemical level, no flow, maximum dosing time exceeded, probe failure, out-of-range reading; acoustic or visual signalling via the alarm output.

The dosing pump, with flow rate and back-pressure defined at the time of ordering, is connected to the pulse output (and/or 0-4/20 mA) and operates in proportional or ON/OFF mode. A pre-calibrated injection valve and a magnetic level probe with coaxial foot filter, which stops the pump when the chemical runs out, are supplied as standard.
